Overview
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is an evidenced-based treatment for Borderline Personality Disorder. It was originally developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan in the 1980s and has since been evaluated in numerous research trials and disseminated around the world. Comprehensive DBT includes once per week individual therapy, once per week skills training groups, and as needed telephone-consultation.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, the participant should be able to:

  1. Identify 3 “what” and 3 “how” skills of DBT.
  2. Practice exercises for teaching mindfulness to clients.
  3. Identify the difference between crisis survival and reality acceptance skills.
  4. List strategies for keeping clients engaged in skills group during didactic teaching.
  5. Review homework in skills group and address homework non-completion.
  6. List the components for the model of emotions that inform all the DBT skills.
  7. Teach clients to ask effectively for something that is important.
  8. Identify and treat behaviors that interfere with successful delivery of skills.

Registration

Registration Fee: $225 (for two days)

Registration Details: Registration fee includes the presentation, breakfast & lunch, as well as a CE Certificate for each attendee. After the program is over, attendees will receive an email invitation to complete an online activity evaluation.  When attendees complete the evaluation, they will be able to download their CE Certificates.

Your registration will not be confirmed and you will be unable to receive continuing education credit until payment is received by Rutgers. If your employer is issuing a check or a purchase order on your behalf, please be sure to register early and process any paperwork required by your employer so payment is received in time for the conference.

Note: Please register early. Space for this program is limited. If seating capacity is reached, we will not be able to accept on-site registration.

Psychologists: Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care has been approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care maintains responsibility for the program and its content. This program has been approved for 13.0 continuing education credits. Instructional Level: Introductory. (13.0 CEs)

Certified Counselors:  Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 6198. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified.  Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care is solely responsible for all aspects of the program. (13.0 Clock Hours).

Social Workers (The New Jersey Board of Social Work Examiners):  This program is approved for social work continuing education hours by Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care in accordance with New Jersey administrative code 13:44G-6.4 and recognized by The New Jersey Board of Social Work Examiners.  This program is approved for 15.0 general continuing education hours.
