Overview

During this one-day virtual event, participants will apply knowledge learned to provide primary and specialty palliative care to patients in multiple settings including the outpatient office, skilled nursing facility, long term care, and home.  

All healthcare professionals welcomed: Adult APRNs, nurses, social workers and anyone caring for seriously ill patients with progressive disease.  

Advance Practice Nurses may submit 2.75 Nursing Contact Hours of this program to meet pharmacology requirements.

Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be better able to:  

  1. 1. Recognize patients that would qualify for palliative care.
  2. 2. Identify criteria for palliative care in different settings.
  3. 3. Apply pain management concepts for the chronically ill and geriatric patient.
  4. 4. Identify regulatory challenges to providing effective symptom management in long term care.
  5. 5. Cite evidence on artificial nutrition and hydration.
  6. 6. Identify the role of music therapy in patient care.
  7. 7. Analyze the role of diversity in advance care planning.

Accreditation and Credit Designation

In support of improving patient care, Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team. 

NURSES

This activity is awarded 7 contact hours (60 minute CH). Nurses should only claim those contact hours actually spent participating in the activity.

Method of Participation

In order to meet the learning objectives and receive continuing education credit, participants are required to check in at the registration desk, attend the program, and complete the online evaluation form at the conclusion of the activity. A letter certifying attendance and credit certification will be emailed to participants upon completion of the online evaluation survey.
