Surge into the Future as an Operating Room Nurse, Spring 2022

A ten-week immersion course for nurses who would like to work in an Operating Room.  Spend time learning how to provide high quality, patient centered care through classroom, simulation, and operating room experiences.

Goals of the course include:

1. Comprehensive classroom instruction including non-technical skills, team coordination, communication and critical thinking. 
2. Students will learn how to integrate into the main operating rooms with basic skills and training, and the support of trained preceptors and hospital educators.
3. Simulation scenarios are incorporated throughout the course to integrate classroom discussion, and skills into the OR setting. 

Students will receive AORN Periop 101 modules.

8. Analyze the steps of the nursing process related to providing care in the perioperative setting.

In support of improving patient care, Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team. 

Method of Participation

In order to meet the learning objectives and receive continuing education credit, participants are required to attend the program, complete all course assignments, and complete the online evaluation form at the conclusion of the activity. A letter certifying attendance and credit certification will be emailed to participants upon completion of the online evaluation survey.
