A one-day course, 6 contact hours.

This course teaches wound assessment skills for nurses and promotes understanding of the wound healing process. It also covers various types of suture materials and indications for their use. Participants will gain hands-on practice of basic suturing techniques.


Target Audience
Specialties - General Nursing

Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants should be better able to:

  1. Become familiar with various wounds and the phases of wound healing.
  2. Recognize and treat infectious abscesses.
  3. Understand the principles of wound management.
  4. Determine when surgical intervention is needed to assist in wound healing.
  5. Determine the type of suture needed to assist in wound healing.
  6. Become familiar with instruments and anesthetic agents used to suture
  7. Practice various suturing techniques.
