Overview

From our Hope and Resilience at the End of Life Annual Conference series, we present to you this Online Webinar focused on how listening to the stories of others and sharing our own narratives help us find meaning and heal. Stories convey values, emotions, and experiences revealing the differences and similarities between our experiences. Illuminating personal stories involves sharing which can facilitate bonds and supportive networks. In this webinar, the narratives from health care professionals will be explored while reviewing the elements of storytelling. Experiential activities, and self-awareness practices will be included.

Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be better able to:

  1. Embrace meaning making and understand stressful events within the present meaning framework.
  2. Reframe their beliefs to comprehend those events that are stressful or traumatic.
  3. Reflect on ways in which they perceive, comprehend, and make sense of life events, particularly highly stressful life ones such as trauma, death, and loss.
  4. More fully comprehend their world and understand what they want to accomplish in their lives.
  5. Expand their understanding of the place of story-telling in the care of serious illness, both for patients' and families’ support, and for clinicians' existential well-being.
  6. Form bonds and supportive networks, and appreciate how storytelling aids the development of personal resilience and provides opportunities to celebrate hardiness.
