TLC: Assessing Threats of Violence in Schools

1. Identify key factors involved in legal cases that questioned the assessment of threats done by school personnel.
2. Identify the components and the key school personnel for a school threat assessment team.
3. Identify best practices for assessing threats of violence towards self or others.
4. Review threat assessment measures including the SAVRY, the PETRA and the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale
5. Understand the relationship between suicide and bullying.
6. Identify the major motivation of school shooters and the three major types of school shooters.

ASWB Social Workers (Not NJ): As a Jointly Accredited Organization, UBHC and RBHS is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. UBHC and RUBHS maintains responsibility for this course. Social workers completing this course receive 3.5 clinical continuing education credits.
