New Jersey state law requires adherence to methods set forth in USP chapters for safe and legal compounding practices.

Professions - Pharmacist, Pharmacy Technician

Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

  1. Describe the goals of and recent updates to USP <797>.
  2. Accurately assign beyond use dating to prepared sterile products in compliance with updated regulations.
  3. Interpret clean room certification testing and develop an action plan for out-of-range paramaters.
  4. Assess compatibility of IV medications during compounding using appropriate references.
  5. Perform donning and doffing of PPE in the appropriate sequence.
  6. Summarize best practices for cleaning a primary engineering control (PEC) prior to and during compounding activities.
  7. Demonstrate the proper placement and manipulation of items in a laminar air flow hood to prevent blockage of first air.
  8. Display appropriate aseptic technique when preparing a sterile product.
