Overview
As per the World Health Organization (WHO), obesity has been classified as an epidemic.  According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, between the years 2017-2020, the prevalence of obesity was estimated at over 40% of the population in the United States.  within the last few years, new pharmacologic treatment options for obesity have received approval, which has prompted questions from both patients and healthcare professionals regarding the optimal use and place in therapy of these medications.  The purpose of this professional continuing education activity is to increase pharmacist knowledge on the significance of the medical condition of obesity and overweight and to ensure pharmacists can accurately identify treatment options for weight loss along with dosing, indication, duration, side effect profile, and proper counseling.
