First Trimester Abortion Care Workshop

Saturday, October 5, 2024, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM, 110 Paterson Street, New Brunswick, NJ

This activity will provide didactic and simulation training of abortion provision including pregnancy options counseling. This training also reviews pre-abortion assessment including pregnancy dating, early pregnancy loss diagnosis, pregnancy of unknown location management, medication abortion provision, aspiration abortion provision, management of complications, and abortion follow up care.

1. Promote person-centered family planning care with an emphasis on reproductive autonomy and informed choice.
2. Perform all steps of a uterine aspiration procedure while maintaining a “no-touch” sterile technique.
3. Counsel patients on the spectrum of abortion care including medication, aspiration, telemedicine, and self-sourced medication abortion.
4. Gather appropriate historical, physical exam, and lab information as needed to safely perform uterine aspiration or medication abortion in an outpatient setting, and know when to consult or refer.
5. Assess and manage challenges and complications related to uterine aspiration.
