Overview
New Jersey state law requires adherence to methods set forth in USP chapters for safe and legal compounding practices.
Pharmacy professionals involved in compounding sterile products must learn about updates to USP recommendations to comply with state law on various tasks associated with compounding, including beyond-use dating; cleaning and disinfection; and clean room design through hands on experience.

Objectives
 
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

 


  1. Describe the goals of and recent updates to USP <797>.
  2. Accurately assign beyond use dating to prepared sterile products in compliance with updated regulations.
  3. Interpret clean room certification testing and develop an action plan for out-of-range parameters.
  4. Assess compatibility of IV medications during compounding using appropriate references.
  5. Perform donning and doffing of PPE in the appropriate sequence.
  6. Summarize best practices for cleaning a primary engineering control (PEC) prior to and during compounding activities.
  7. Demonstrate the proper placement and manipulation of items in a laminar air flow hood to prevent blockage of first air.
  8. Display appropriate aseptic technique when preparing a sterile product.

Registration

Part 1 registration (Home Study portion) will open once you pay the $580 fee.  Part 2 registration (live, in-person on January 13, 2025) will open automatically on January 13, 2025 only for attendees that completed Part 1.  You Cannot Claim Partial Credit.   You must complete the home study before Jan 13th, 2025, and arrive by 8:00am at Rutgers Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy on Monday, January 13, 2025 for Part 2.

In order to do Home Study assignment, sign in the same way you registered, go the the tab "MyCE" on the upper right of screen, and click "Tests".  It will lead you to the reading assignment and test, of which you have 2 chances to pass with 70% or more.   On Jan 13, 2025 Part 2 will once once you arrive for the one-day in person portion.

Home Study Session Part 1: Sterile Compounding
Please read USP documentation, take test.  Must receive 70% or better and you have 2 attempts to do so.  You must attend the live portion at Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy, Levine Hall, 160 Frelinghuysen Rd, Piscataway NJ on January 13, 2025 and register your vehicle online before coming.  You must park in lots 55, 58A, 58B ONLY.  Parking tickets will not be forgiven.
