Overview
Course Overview
New developments in the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal (GI) and liver disorders are complex and ever changing, with new research, clinical trials, techniques, and treatments rapidly altering the field. These advances present challenges for practitioners who are involved in managing these patients with these disorders and who must stay abreast of this new information and its application in clinical practice.

Specialists in the field of gastroenterology will provide useful information and wisdom that comes from varies experiences in treating GI and liver disorders. The latest clinical research findings and their application to clinical practice will be discussed. Topics presented will highlight the latest diagnosis techniques, management strategies and research developments that impact the care of patients with GI and liver disorders.

Armed with the information from this activity, practitioners providing care for or co-managing patients with GI and liver disorders can make timely diagnostic treatment and referral decisions in the context of patient choice and resources with their communities. In addition, participants will be able to prepare the patient for what to expect from recommended tests, consultations and recommended treatment plans.

Target Audience
This activity is designed for gastroenterologists, primary care physicians, advanced practice nurses, nurses, pharmacists, physician assistants, fellows, and residents involved in the diagnosis, evaluation, management, and treatment of patients with GI and liver disorders. Additionally, social workers, case managers and representatives of the medical insurance industry will find this activity useful.

Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

  1. Assess the latest evidence-based management for the care of patients with gastrointestinal and liver disease
  2. Evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of therapeutic options for the management of gastrointestinal and liver disease
  3. Review recently published literature and professional society guidelines pertaining to the evaluation and treatment of gastrointestinal and liver disease
  4. Evaluate the latest clinical research findings for gastrointestinal and liver disease management and their application into clinical practice

Registrants may be asked to furnish documentation confirming their employment status in order to be eligible for a reduced rate. If it is determined that a registrant does not meet the eligibility criteria, the registrant will be required to pay the necessary tuition fee.

Registration fee includes continental breakfast, refreshment breaks, lunch, continuing education credits, and course materials. Registration can only be accepted through our secure online website.

Online registration will close on April 23, 2019 or earlier if seating capacity is reached. Pre-registration is recommended. Onsite registration will be accommodated on a space available basis.

Cancellation/Refund
A full refund, less a $25 cancellation fee, will be granted if notice is received no later than April 26, 2019. Refunds will not be issued for any cancellation received after April 26, 2019 and cannot be given for no shows. Resident/fellow tuition fees are non-refundable. Accreditation and Credit Designation

In support of improving patient care, Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.


Physicians: Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences designates this live activity for a maximum of 8 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nurses: This activity is awarded 8 contact hours. (60 minute CH)

Pharmacists: The knowledge-based activity qualifies for 8 contact hours of continuing pharmacy education credit.

NABP e-Profile ID and date of birth must be entered in your MyCE Profile . CPE credit will be processed after the program evaluations has closed to participants, which will be three to four weeks after the activity date.

Nurses and pharmacists should claim only those contact hours actually spent participating in the activity.

Physician Assistants: AAPA accepts certificates of participation for education activities certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ from organizations accredited by ACCME or a recognized state medical society. PAs may received a maximum of 8 Category 1 credits for completing this activity.

ABIM MOC Points: Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn 8 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider's responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.

Method of Participation
In order to meet the learning objectives and receive continuing education credits, participants are expected to check in at the registration desk, attend the program and complete the online evaluation form at the conclusion of the activity. A letter certifying attendance and credit verification will be emailed to participants upon completion of the online evaluation survey.
