Overview

A wide range of diseases and conditions that affect children and adolescents cause significant mortality and morbidity. Clinicians are challenged on a daily basis to identify, diagnose, and treat these pediatric diseases and conditions, as well as to refer when necessary. In addition to the significant morbidity and mortality that can occur without proper diagnosis and treatment, health care costs can be increased due to unnecessary testing and improper referral.

This activity will highlight the latest diagnostic techniques and management strategies that impact the care of patients with complex pediatric disorders. The latest clinical research findings and their application to clinical practice will also be presented.

Armed with the information from this activity, clinicians will be able to make timely diagnostic, treatment and referral decisions in the context of patient choice and the resources within their communities. In addition, providers will be able to prepare patients and their caretakers for what to expect from recommended testing, consultations and treatment plans.

Target Audience
This activity is designed for primary health care providers involved in the diagnosis, evaluation, management, and treatment of patients with pediatric disorders; this includes, but is not limited to, pediatricians, family practice physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, residents and fellows.

Activity Director
Benjamin J. Lentzner, MD
Professor of Pediatrics
Division of Pediatric Cardiology
Director, Pediatric Cardiology Elective
Director, Division of Pediatric Cardiology Education
Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School
New Brunswick, NJ

  3. Identify effective strategies for diagnosing and managing challenging clinical problems in practice
  4. Review recent advances in biomedical and behavioral sciences that will impact the medical care of children
