Overview

There is a growing gap in knowledge and competency within the nursing workforce due to the increasing acuity of frail elderly patients in skilled nursing facilities, post-acute care, and assisted living communities. The Top Gun course is designed to enhance clinical knowledge and strengthen the skill set of nurses working in long-term care settings.

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

 


  1. Determine the changes in the federal and state regulations and confirm they are being addressed and followed in their community.
  2. Recognize the impact of MDS and reimbursement.
  3. Mitigate legionella.
  4. Strategize with the staff how to be survey ready everyday.
  5. Understand the codes of conduct, hiring and terminating employees and compliance in employment law.
  6. Implement best practice guidelines preventing falls.
  7. Strategize with staff on how to shorten the medication pass to save on valuable nursing time.
  8. Avoid unnecessary drugs in the long-term setting.

Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
