Overview
This activity will provide learners with strategies for assisting consumers with navigating end of life issues including initiating conversations, use of tools in the field, and different forms of grief associated with end of life issues. Self care for professionals will also be discussed. 

Target Audience
Specialties - General Nursing, Other Clinical , Social Work

Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, you should be able to:

  1. Discuss varied aspects involved with end of life planning including Advance Care Planning, medical, financial, and legal concerns and resources available to support consumers with those issues.
  2. Learn strategies including how to initiate and maintain productive conversations addressing personal values and end of life preferences that are culturally sensitive.
  3. Demonstrate understanding of two tools used for end of life conversations and advance care planning like Go Wish and Five Wishes.
  4. Review complicated grief including anticipatory grief and ambiguous loss including how that impacts end of life conversations.
  5. Identify ways to engage in self-care related to secondary impact of assisting consumers with end of life issues

Registration

Registration Fee: Registration for this program is by invite-only by The Division of Aging Services.  There is no cost to attend the program, but there is a $25 fee to receive your CE Certificate.

After the program is over, attendees will receive an email invitation to complete an online activity evaluation.  When attendees complete the evaluation, they will be able to pay for and download their CE Certificates.

Accreditation and Credit Designation

In support of improving patient care, Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Nurses: This activity is awarded 5.75 contact hours. (60 minute CH). Nurses should claim only those contact hours actually spent participating in the activity.

Certified Counselors:  Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 6198. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified.  Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care is solely responsible for all aspects of the program. (5.75 Clock Hours).

Social Workers (The New Jersey Board of Social Work Examiners):  This program is approved for social work continuing education hours by Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care in accordance with New Jersey administrative code 13:44G-6.4 and recognized by The New Jersey Board of Social Work Examiners.  This program is approved for 5.75 general continuing education hours.
