Targeted Testing and Treatment for Tuberculosis in Children

Policies related to TB testing and medical treatment of children with TB have changed in recent years. This activity will provide nurses an overview of updated recommendations for targeted testing and preferred regimens for treating childhood TB infection.  It will also provide school nurses clarity for frequently asked questions to ensure they understand their role in the prevention and management of TB in school-aged children.

1. Summarize epidemiology of tuberculosis in NJ, including school-aged children
2. Describe the roles and responsibilities of the school nurse and health department staff in TB management among children and their families
3. Outline screening and treatment recommendations for LTBI among children and adolescents
4. Emphasize when to contact the state TB program for questions and guidance in specific situations

How to Receive CE Credit: Participants should review the activity in its entirety and then complete the post-test, which is accessible on the "Online Content & Tests". Upon completing this activity as designed, achieving a passing score of 100% on the post-test, and completing the evaluation, participants will be able to download their CE certificate. The CE certificate will also be emailed to you.
