Objectives

Professionals working in the fields of: Child Protective Services, Attorneys, Mental Health, Forensic Nurse Examiners, Law Enforcement, Prosecution, Victim Advocates; Partner Agencies are strongly encouraged to attend. 

At the conclusion of this activity the learner will be able to: 


  1. Relate to the personal journey of coming into nonbinary trans identity as a way to foster an understanding of transgender people and inspire listeners to be true to themselves.
  2. Recall gender and sexuality terms and repeat how these categories are defined.
  3. Increase knowledge on understanding the complexity of sexual orientation and gender identity and addressing the social, cultural and mental health impact.
  4. Propose tools for professionals to examine current practice and create more affirmative interactions and environments for LGBTQIA+ children and families.
  5. Identify potentially traumatic experiences that are commonly reported by LGBTQ+ youth.
  6. Examine medical considerations in working with LGBTQIA+ youth.

Registration
  • After completing general registration for this activity you will be provided additional Zoom registration links 48 hours prior to event.
  • There will be one main link for general session and different links for concurrent workshops.

10:15 am - 11:45 am: LGBTQ+ 101: Understanding Sexuality and Gender Identity

11:45 am - 12:45 pm: Lunch

12:45 pm – 1:00 pm: Housekeeping, overflow audience questions CE information

1:00 pm - 2:30 pm: Providing LGBTQ+ Affirmative Services: Beyond Rainbows and Unicorns

2:45 pm – 4:15 pm  --  Concurrent Workshops

Workshop B: Recognizing, Treating, and Preventing Trauma in LGBTQ+ Youth

Workshop C: Hormonal Affirmation Treatment in Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming Youth 

 

Accreditation and Credit Designation

 In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by New Jersey Children's Alliance and Rutgers Biomedical Health Sciences. Rutgers Biomedical Health Sciences is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Nurses:  This activity is awarded 5.5 contact hours (60 min CH). 

Physicians:  Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences designates this live activity for a maximum of 5.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.

  Psychologists: This course is approved for 5.5 (Intermediate level) Continuing Education (CE) Credits for Psychologists are provided through the co-sponsorship of the American Psychological Association (APA) Office of Continuing Education in Psychology (CEP). The APA CEP Office maintains responsibility for the content of the programs.

Social Workers (The New Jersey Board of Social Work Examiners):  This program is approved for social work continuing education hours by Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care in accordance with New Jersey administrative code 13:44G-6.4 and recognized by The New Jersey Board of Social Work Examiners. This program is approved for 5.5 general and or cultural competency continuing education hours.
