Overview
This seminar will provide a general overview on health information technology (HIT) for nursing faculty to support the knowledge and skills needed to implement the new AACN essential competencies. Presenters will identify, define, and outline multiple technologies that are used in current healthcare practices and suggest how they may be integrated into clinical courses.

Specialties - Education, General Nursing

Objectives
At the end of the seminar, faculty will be able to:

  1. Learn how Information and communication technology (ICT) is useful for nursing practice.
  2. Differentiate between different types of health information systems (HIS).
  3. Describe systems selection process, workflow analysis, implementation & integration process, and interoperability & Health Information Exchange (HIE).
  4. Understand data standards, data structure, data management, analytics, Artificial Intelligence, and Clinical Decision Support (CDS) to quality care.
  5. Summarize consumer health technologies, such as patient portal, personal health records, mobile health, and telehealth in changing and improving models of care.
  6. Question current challenges in HIT use, development, and research.

Method of Participation

In order to meet the learning objectives and receive continuing education credit, participants are required to attend the program and complete the online evaluation form at the conclusion of the activity. Instructions to complete the course evaluation will be emailed upon conclusion of the activity.
