Overview

This activity emphasizes the importance of release planning and collaboration to ensure continuity of TB care in and out of correctional facilities. It will also provide a review of best practices and discuss challenges along with the successes of working with security and medical staff in corrections.

Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

  1. Identify the roles that corrections security and medical staff, and public health staff play in release planning for active and high-priority TB infected patients to ensure continuity of care upon release to the community
  2. Illustrate two steps for inmates being released to the community to assure positive outcomes and minimal transmission to others for active TB patients
