Overview
This ce activity will provide an overview of the COVID-19 vaccination landscape and the development of the vaccines.  Discussions on the science behind the new vaccine strategies as well as the regulatory approval process and the impact of accelerated timelines in the COVID-19 era.COVID-19 is a disease that is hard to prevent.  It is a highly contagious virus.  The development of these vaccines are a promising development in the efforts to reduce viral spread in a global pandemic.  Due to the continuous changes in new data from clinical studies and the changes in recommendation and clinical guidelines which has created practice gaps in the treatment, education and vaccination of patients.

Specialties - General Pharmacy
Professions - Medical Fellow, Pharmacist, Physician, Registered Nurse

Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

  1. Summarize the epidemiology, virology, and disease pathogenesis of COVID-19.
  2. Describe the new vaccine strategies being studied and developed to prevent COVID-19.
  3. Identify the proposed vaccine currently being studied and compare the differences in the mechanisms of potential vaccines.
  4. Review the US regulatory process for vaccine approvals and the impact of accelerated timelines in the COVID-19 era.
  5. Discuss the public sentiment regarding COVID-19 vaccines, and associated select health disparities.
