Overview

Despite significant advancements in pharmaceutical research and development, a persistent "implementation gap" often exists between the proven efficacy of new drug therapies in controlled clinical trials and their consistent, optimal adoption and impact in real-world clinical practice.  This disconnect may lead to sub-optimal patient outcomes, inefficient resource utilization, and an inability to fully realize the societal value of innovative medicines.  With an increasing focus on demonstrating real-world effectiveness, patient access, and value-based care, understanding the principles of implementation science becomes paramount.  This discipline provides a systematic approach to identifying barriers and facilitators to the uptake of evidence-based interventions.  The purpose of this continuing pharmacy education activity is to equip pharmacist learners with a comprehensive understanding of  implementation science concepts and methodologies, enabling them to bridge the research-to-practice gap and optimize patient care.

Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

  1. Define basic implementation science principles and assess when to apply the in evaluating evidence-based practice integration within an organization.
  2. Summarize types of implementation research and define appropriate situations for each as well as best practices.
  3. Evaluate real-world examples and discuss with peers how to successfully incorporate implementation science into clinical practice.

Registration

This is a VIRTUAL 1.0 credit APCE activity.  You must register in order to receive the activity's zoom link just prior to this activity's live, virtual date of October 3, 2025.  BY signing in the activity's zoom link the day of the activity, your attendance will be recorded.
