Overview

Drug shortages and recalls pose significant challenges to patient care and healthcare systems. Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians play a critical and dynamic roles in tackling the response to drug shortages and recalls. The CE activity provides pharmacists and pharmacist technicians with evidence-based strategies to effectively anticipate, identify and manage drug shortages and recalls. Participants in this activity will explore the root causes of drug shortages, learn to utilize national shortage databases, and developed protocols for therapeutic substitutions.


ACPE Pharmacist Objectives
  1. Describe the scope and impact of medication shortages on patient care and healthcare delivery systems.
  2. Explain the steps in a systematic approach to assess medication shortage impact before, during, and after they occur.
  3. Identify strategies to prevent critical low medication supply in the pharmacy.

ACPE Pharmacy Technician Objectives
  1. Describe the scope and impact of medication shortages on patient care and healthcare delivery systems.
  2. Explain the steps in a systematic approach to assess medication shortage impact before, during, and after they occur.
  3. Identify strategies to prevent critical low medication supply in the pharmacy.

In order to receive credit, you must complete the online evaluation.  If it is not completed within a 2 week period, you will NOT receive credit.
