Overview

Stress First Aid (SFA) is a practical framework designed to support recovery from stress reactions in both oneself and coworkers.  Rather than focusing only on responses after critical incidents, SFA emphasizes ongoing awareness and early intervention.  It supports the kinds of helpful actions associated with strong friendship, mentorship and leadership by providing core strategies to identify and address early signs of stress. The goal of SFA is to recognize stress reactions in ourselves and others along a continuum and to reduce the likelihood that these reactions develop into more serious or long-term concerns.

Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

  1. Describe the Stress First Aid (SFA) framework and the color-coded distress continuum
  2. Identify at least four early distress indicators in themselves and colleagues and propose two practical communication strategies to provide support and connection.
