Overview

Echocardiography is central to the diagnosis and management of cardiovascular disease, yet rapid advances in imaging technologies and evolving clinical guidelines have made it increasingly challenging for clinicians to consistently apply best practices in real-world settings. Variability in image acquisition, interpretation, and integration of findings into clinical decision-making can lead to missed or delayed diagnoses, particularly in complex conditions.

This activity is designed to address these critical gaps through a practical, multidisciplinary approach to echocardiographic imaging. This program will provide participants with the latest evidence-based updates and hands-on training in core and advanced echocardiographic techniques.

Through interactive case discussions, expert-led sessions, and small-group workshops, participants will strengthen their ability to accurately assess cardiac function, quantify valvular disease, recognize complex pathologies, and apply imaging findings to clinical decision-making. Special emphasis will be placed on emerging applications in cardio-oncology, structural heart disease, and acute care settings.

Designed for the entire echo lab team, this program will enhance technical skills, improve diagnostic confidence, and promote standardized, high-quality echocardiographic practice. Ultimately, participants will be better equipped to deliver timely, accurate, and patient-centered cardiovascular care aligned with recommended guidelines.

Target Audience
This activity is intended for physicians, sonographers, advanced practice providers, nurses, residents, fellows, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, and other allied healthcare professionals involved in the echocardiographic assessment and management of cardiovascular disease. Specialties that may benefit from this program include cardiology, internal medicine, anesthesiology, critical care, emergency medicine, neurology, and hospital medicine.

Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

  1. Apply guideline-directed approaches to assess systolic and diastolic cardiac function using echocardiography.
  2. Quantify the severity of valvular heart disease using standardized echocardiographic criteria and integrate findings into clinical decision-making.
  3. Interpret advanced echocardiographic modalities in the evaluation of cardiovascular disease.
  4. Integrate echocardiographic findings into the management of complex cardiovascular conditions.
  5. Utilize echocardiography and point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) for rapid assessment in acute and critical care settings.
  6. Demonstrate appropriate echocardiographic techniques for evaluating pericardial disease and hemodynamic instability.
  7. Implement quality assurance principles to improve accuracy, reproducibility, and safety in echocardiographic imaging.
  8. Collaborate effectively within interprofessional teams to optimize workflow, communication, and patient care in the echocardiography lab.
  9. Apply echocardiographic strategies in specialized clinical contexts, including cardio-oncology and structural heart interventions.
  10. Develop practical skills in advanced echocardiographic techniques.
