Overview

Goal of the Program: Improve the healthcare team's ability to explain the drug discovery and development process in the United States and implications of this process on patient care. The focus will be to educate on the past, current, and future landscape of drug development.

Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

  1. Outline a history of Early Drug development and discovery
  2. Identify the major events that led to changes in the drug development process
  3. Recognize the value of generic medication from multiple stakeholder perspectives
  4. Review the FDA's regulatory process for evaluation and approval of biosimilars and interchangeable products.
  5. Review the developmental history of monoclonal antibodies
  6. Outline fundamental elements of gene therapy design and development
  7. Outline the evolution of personalized medicine and the role of biomarkers
  8. Define Artificial Intelligence (AI) and recognize the relationship between artificial intelligence, machine learning, and deep learning
